| THE VIOL | |
| Members receive four issues each year of this new publication, which replaces the society's long-established newsletter. It provides news about forthcoming events; listings of new CDs and publications; reports of meetings; reviews; information about viol activities around the world, and a range of material, including some more substantial articles about viols, their music and its composers and performers. | |
| REGULAR MEETINGS ON VIOL-RELATED TOPICS | |
| There are usually three meetings each year, including at least one in London. Speakers are authorities on their subjects and meetings usually incorporate live music illustrations played by members and others. At some meetings members' consorts are coached by leading teachers. | |
| VIOL HIRE | |
| The Society owns a number of treble, tenor and bass viols (complete with bows and cases) which are available for hire to members. Many viol players find that this is an excellent way to start to learn before they buy their own instrument. | |
| LOW COST SHEET MUSIC | |
| The society publishes a range of music for viols, much of which is either unavailable elsewhere or provides the opportunity to sample a composer's work without buying a complete edition. Members are able to buy the society's Music Editions at a substantially reduced cost. | |
| MEMBERS' LIST | |
| An annually produced list of all members, including contact details and playing skills, indicating whether members are teacher or makers | |
| INCLUSION ON WEBSITE | |
| Members can request to have a link to their website(s) on this site. There are three categories: Members' sites, Teachers and Makers. | |
| FREE SMALL ADS | |
| Members can place small personal ads (such as instruments for sale) in the newsletter for free. Viol-related items (instruments, bows, cases etc) can also be uploaded to this website for free. | |
