| Meetings are where people who are interested in the viol
get together to learn more and meet each other. They are a
great place for newcomers to start as well as a forum for
the latest research and ideas to be debated. There are always
a number of different speakers and live music.
There are usually three meetings each year (normally in
March, June and November), at least one of which is in central
London. They are free to members, but a small charge or donation
is requested from non-members.
Meetings are free to members, although donations are
welcomed!

Meeting Point
Marc Soubeyran and John Topham will jointly present this day on Dietrich Kessler's beautiful collection. Marc will talk about the history of the instruments and the collection, while John will talk about the restoration of the instruments. All six instruments will be there, and will be played.
Readers of The Viol will know about the copy of the Meares viol which has been made by a group of international makers and will be raffled to raise funds for the collection. This viol will also be at the meeting and Marc will talk about the making of it. Those attending the day will be able to play the copy as well as buy raffle tickets.
John Topham trained in Mittenwald and Marc Soubeyran in the Brienz violin making school. Both worked many years for Dietrich Kessler at Withers, London. After establishing themselves as self employed violin makers they continued to work on and off for Dietrich, John restoring many old viols and Marc preparing parts for new viols. They are both founder members of the BVMA (British Violin Making Association).
